Redirect A BANS Site To Blog Inside A Folder

Most people who purchase BANS (Build A Niche Store) install the software on the top level domain. Meaning when you go to your domain http//www.mysite.com that it displays your BANS site.

While there is nothing with this, many users are now seeing a lower indexing rate and some have even seen their domains completely de-indexed in Google.

To combat these problems, many users are now wanting to add blogs to their stores or want to install them on the top level and add BANS to the backend in a folder.

This is something that I began doing myself well over a year ago and have had great success with the method. If you run a BANS site, I highly recommend you add a blog to it. You will see a huge difference in your traffic and the way your pages are indexed almost immediately.

The problem that some have is they wish they had the blog on the top level instead of a folder. The good news is that you can make your blog appear first to visitors instead of your BANS store using a simple .htaccess redirect. In fact, this will work for any type of site where the blog has been installed in a folder instead of on the front end.

To do this, you will need to download and open up your .htaccess file in your favorite text editor. Then add the following code:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^$ /blog/ [R=301]

--Replace the word blog with whatever you have named the folder that includes your WordPress blog.

Save the file and upload it back to your site.

Now visit your domain to see that the change has taken effect.
