PhpBay Site Build – Settings For First Site
I have touched on discussing the settings and options inside of phpBay Pro and in this post, I am going to tell you how I set them up for the Gorgeous For Less site.
When I signed up for EPN, I chose only to deal with the US affiliate program as I knew I would not have time to build sites for every country. Being from the US, it was the obvious choice. So my selection for this site is the US program.
I chose to use the SEO urls option for this site as I just feel it looks cleaner. This is the option that takes the rover links and converts them into links that look like they are on your site. If you choose this option, do not forget to modify your .htaccess file with the code provided or this feature will not work on your site.
I also chose to only display auctions that had images. Due to the product layout I was going to choose, it was just the best fit for the site.
I chose to display a hover (mousover) color. You will notice that the mouseover color on the site is the same as the background of the theme. This looked better than basic grey.
If you want a quick way to choose your colors and you use FireFox, I highly recommend getting an extension called ColorZilla. It makes color selection as simple as clicking a mouse. You simply click the little eyedropper in the lower left corner and click over the color on a webpage that you like. It instantly gives you the RGB and hex codes for the color to enter.
I wanted to display listings in column format rather than rows on this site so I chose that option as well. The theme I am using works well with 2 columns.
I set the listings to sort with Time Ending Soonest for now. This could possibly change in the future after more posts are made and I see how buyers respond.
Since many of the products I will talk about on this site have hundreds or even thousands of listings, I chose to use Paging on this site and set the number of listings to 10 per page. It just creates a better user experience in my opinion and will keep the reader on your site for a longer period of time. It also gives the reader the opportunity to find the exact product they are looking for before clicking over to eBay.
These are the basic settings that I chose to use on this site. If I did not mention an option, then I did not use it. Again, these are entirely up to you and how you want your site to look when building your own.
The next post will be instructions for getting rid of the gray background in the Paging area and making it blend with your site.
