PhpBay Site Build – Making Your First Post

Now we are going to make our first post incorporating the PhpBay Pro plugin.

The site I am using for this build is located at http://gorgeousforless.com

For the first build, I am leaving this site as a regular blog and will add any related products that I might happen to reference directly into the post itself. If you visit my first post located here: http://gorgeousforless.com/skin-care/prevent-sun-damage-wrinkles/ - you will see that this short article references preventing wrinkles due to sun damage.

This was just a very short article describing one of the many ways to prevent wrinkles and you will see that I added the products below the post. Now you may or may not like this format depending on the niche you are building around, but after testing the plugin on many different types of sites, this is the format that readers seem to respond to the best.

Think of adding listings to a post as sort of like a center aisle display in your local discount stores (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) You see those items as you walk by and in many cases, some of them mysteriously end up in your cart. These are called "impulse" purchases.

This is exactly what PhpBay does for your blog posts. You first talk about some sort of item or product (either general or specific) and then show your readers how good of a deal they can get on said product while it is still fresh in their minds.

Depending on the niche, many of your readers will have never even thought of buying the item on eBay, much less know that it is being sold there.

On the flip side of the standard blog format, I know many of you will just want to build sites that look like e-commerce webstores and this is the next site we will build. It is the second most popular format among buyers so please stay tuned for that series.

Back to the topic at hand, these are the steps I took to create this type of post:

  • Wrote the article in Notepad (the longest step)
  • Copied and pasted the article into my Visual editor in WordPress
  • Clicked on the HTML link in the editor
  • Clicked on pBP tab to insert code into the post
  • Set my keywords along with how many to display
  • Clicked Publish

This post was complete in just a matter of minutes.

Using the plugin this way is for the sites that you will always be adding content to and building upon. Keep in mind that you do not have to add products to every post. Just use it when there are products that "fit" with your post.

When it comes to search engine optimization, not just the hosting, but the web design has to be quality as well as the presence of dedicated servers.

This format is not for the "set and forget" type of sites. In other words, if you do not see yourself being able to blog about the niche in another year or so, then you may not want to use this format.

In future posts, we will discuss many of the methods you can use to build these type of sites and I will give out examples. You will have to do some testing and find out what works for you.

In about a month, I will post some statistics for the site I am building here so you can monitor the progress.

In the next post, I will talk about the phpBay Pro settings I've used for the site.

  1. Have you used PHPBay with WordPress 2.5? Did it work OK?

    Thanks…

  2. Hi Frank,

I’ll be honest, I actually hadn’t tested it on 2.5.

I went ahead and set up a test blog here on the site and tried it out. The plugin worked perfect and I had no problems. You can see the page here:

That was a great question and I thank you for asking. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to let me know. Be glad to help.
