PhpBay Site Build – Installing phpBay
Now that you have WordPress installed on your site, it is time to upload and install the PhpBay Pro plugin.
Again, and I cannot stress this enough, to avoid problems with your installation, please ensure that your host has Ioncube support. If you are not sure, please send them a support ticket and ask before you install this plugin. It really is that critical. If your host does not automatically support Ioncube, do not despair, you can still get the plugin to function with the instructions that come with the plugin or you can get help at the support forum for PhpBay. Edit: Ioncube support is no longer needed for phpBay Pro. It should now work on any hosting account or server just as any other WordPress Plugin.
As you may have already read, I had this problem on my former host. I could get the plugin to function properly, but not without spending extra time on the effort. I don't know about you, but in my world - time is money. So I moved to a host that allowed me to simplify things.
Back to the installation. You should have already downloaded and unzipped your copy of the plugin to a folder on your hard drive. Now go open your favorite FTP software. If you do not have FTP software, here are a couple of free options - FileZilla and if you use FireFox, there is an awesome extension called FireFTP. <-- I use this all the time. Simple, easy, powerful and free, what more could you ask for?
At this point, in order to preserve the integrity of the plugin and not make it easy for those who like to copy other's work, I am going to ask that you refer to the installation instructions in the pdf file that came with phpBay to get the plugin installed. If you have taken my advice and made sure that your host supports Ioncube, the instructions are very straight forward, easy to follow and you should not run into any problems. However, if you do run into trouble, there is help available. Feel free to contact me here by using the Contact page and I will be glad to assist you if I can. You can also ask for help in the phpBay support forum or open a support ticket at the phpBay site.
I would love to post step by step instructions for you, but will not do so as I feel they should be seen only by the eyes of those who have paid to access the plugin. If you have purchased it and are a member of the forum, then you should go read the post about where the developer had a problem with someone ripping off his code and selling it for his own. I have no use for anybody that would do that and I hope you can understand that I will not contribute to the possibility that it could happen again by posting step-by-step installation instructions.
If there is enough interest, I am considering offering an installation service for PhpBay that would include the installation of WordPress, basic WordPress configuration, installation of critical plugins as well as installation of the PhpBay plugin. Either leave me a comment or use the Contact form and let me know if this is something you would like to see offered.
Now that you have PhpBay installed, you are now ready to activate the plugin. To do this, simply login to your WordPress admin area and click on the Plugins link. This takes you to a page that shows you your installed plugins. You should see the following in your list of plugins (click image to enlarge):
Now simply click the Activate Link and if successful, it will not only tell you, but the area around the plugin description will turn green like this (click image to enlarge):
In the next post, we will setup the phpBay plugin.
