Updating Previous Information Since I Moved The Blog

In reviewing many of the past posts, I noticed a lot of the information is now outdated. There have been so many updates, upgrades, etc. over the last few months that nearly everything I had written before is now history.

So in light of all that, I am going to once again start over. Believe me, I hate having to do that as much as you all hate to hear it, but I promise this will be the last time. :)

It just doesn't make sense to re-post outdated information.

For all of you who have sent emails questioning why I made the move to a new server and hosting account, I'll be glad to tell you why.

I had this site hosted on ResellerZoom. Have been with them for almost 5 years and never experienced a problem - that is, until recently.

The first thing I noticed is they were not updating my webstats regularly. It might go for a week or more before I would see an update. This was unacceptable and honestly, there was no reason for it. Now I'm not really a stats freak, but when I look at them, I expect them to be current.

As well, they recently upgraded the server and when they did this, nearly everything on the backend was skewed. Email was non-existent for days, I couldn't add new databases for test sites and there was a whole string of other problems.

Once all of the problems got sorted out, it came time for me to test out the newest version of phpBay Pro. I had usually tested the latest features of the plugin in a test folder here. Well, due to the updates in the latest version, I had to take many extra steps to get it to run properly on ResellerZoom.

It is common knowledge that most webhosts now support Ioncube applications without you having to really do anything. Not so with ResellerZoom hosting.

Due to my amount of experience, I was able to make the plugin work. However, I am not willing to jump through those hurdles every time I want to build a phpBay site, nor is it easy to explain to others who may not have a lot of experience how to get the plugin running on a host where you need to install the Ioncube loaders yourself and overwrite the server's php.ini files.

So instead of fighting this every time, I decided to move to a host that I know I will not have any problems with and supports everything I need. Therefore I have moved everything to Hostgator.

Getting everything moved and setup was a snap with Hostgator and I cannot say enough good about them. I even quickly installed a test site and the plugin worked straight away. I highly recommend getting a Hostgator account if you are planning to take advantage of the eBay affiliate program and build several sites.

Now some of you may be asking why a WordPress plugin needs Ioncube support. The reason for this is the creator of phpBay was the victim of a thief who ripped off his code and was selling it as his own. The thief didn't even bother to remove his notations in the coding so it was easy to spot. I can't blame him at all for wanting to protect his code after this experience. He has way to many hours of development in the plugin for someone to come along and rip him off that way.

The good news coming from all of this is the information you will be reading here will be 100% current from this moment on and there is a lot to tell. Thanks so much for sticking with me and I'll be back very soon with productive posts. Stay tuned!

  1. Why not you try VPS or dedicated hosting? More reliable and you have more control on your own hosting. And the best part is you don\’t have to share with others. Price of course is the issues for some normal webmaster and blogger.
