Frustration, Frustration, Frustration….

Sorry folks, this is a bit of a rant. :-)

Does anyone else have satellite internet? If you do, then you understand all about bandwidth limits. I don't know about you, but I despise them and it is becoming more and more of an increasing problem for me.

Honestly, it sucks. Yes, I can upgrade my package, but even at the highest level, we could still possibly go over bandwidth limit and be subject to the Fair Access Policy limitation.

Now, if you have ever been limited by the FAP limitation, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's slower than dial-up and your bandwidth is not reset until a 24 hour period has expired. I am seriously considering finding the cheapest dial-up plan I can find and having it available as a backup.

In case you cannot tell, I am at this moment suffering from the FAP slap. It will reset at midnight tonight, however I'm not quite sure my coffeepot will survive until then. For those of you who understand, you know I need the coffee to keep me awake between page loads. ;-)

I can only hope my telephone company will go ahead and upgrade their lines and services to offer high speed internet in this area sometime soon. They keep saying they will, but I'm not holding my breath. I will say that I've already set aside the money to get out of the satellite contract if they do.

I really feel for those of you who are on Comcast. I hear in October they are going to start limiting bandwidth on their customers and will begin offering different sized packages. I'm sure it will be quite a change as you all are used to unlimited internet access. Have also heard that soon, many other internet service providers will be following suit.

Unfortunatley, I think the FAP will effect everyone in the near future. If you are like me and bound by these limits, please feel free to leave a comment and rant about it here. I know exactly how you feel and you've got a sympathetic ear.

Second month stats for first phpBay Build site are coming tomorrow. Stay tuned!

  1. I know what you’re going through and I feel for you. Satellite used to be the only game in town for me. I hated almost every minute of it as sites I loved or came to rely on before I moved were virtually unusable with the FAP nonsense. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your phone company to get a move on.

  2. Wow, I had not heard that about Comcast. I have always had great Internet service with them, so that would be very disappointing!

  3. Hi Shane,

I can’t find the original article I read, but Comcast may have changed their tune a little regarding different price packages.

Now I’m hearing that home users will be limited to 250GB of bandwidth per month which is actually pretty generous.

However, I do know some people who could exceed that limit.

I wish you all the best with them and hope it doesn’t really affect you. :)

  4. Never used satellite internet, but I’ve heard nothing good about them, other than there is no alternative in certain areas.

Have you looked into cellular broadband?

  5. Well I certainly wouldn’t recommend it unless it is the only – and I do mean only – option you have for faster internet.

    No, I haven’t looked into cellular broadband. However, it’s a thought. ;)

@JL, thanks for the nice comment. I’m sorry I missed responding to it earlier. Glad to know I’m not the only one who understands this. lol

Yeah, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the phone company too. One of my neighbors calls them and chews them out about making it available either once a week or every two weeks. Hope it’s doing some good. :)
