Easily Calculate EPN Commissions

Want to easily learn how profitable a particular niche or product can be with EPN? There is a nice little online tool that helps you easily accomplish this called the eBay Fee Calculator.

This tool was created for eBay sellers, however since EPN affiliates earn their commissions off of the fees that eBay collects and not the actual sale price of an item, it makes sense to use this tool to calculate how profitable an item or group of items can be. Here is the link:

http://ebcalc.com/auction/single/

To use the calculator, just head on over to eBay and do a little research on the item you are looking to build a site around. I will do a couple of examples here.

For the first example, I will use the term "Bose Wave Radio". After looking this up, I can see the average starting price is at least $99 and the average sell price is around $285+. So now I'll head over to the eBay fee calculator and see what eBay will generally collect on this item.

I will enter $99 in the Opening Price box and $285 in the Closing Price box. There are not too many Buy It Now's or special listings such as "Featured" for this item so there is no need to fill in those blanks. So I will now scroll to the bottom and hit "Calculate". We now see that eBay collects $13.29 in fees for an item with these parameters of which you would earn half of this or approximately $6.65.

Now let's take these same parameters and add a few features to it, such as Gallery Plus, Bold and Featured Plus. Recalculate and you will see that eBay collects $29.59 of which you would earn approximately $14.80.

This is a great way to estimate what you will earn in EPN commissions before you even consider building the site. You also have to take into account ACRU (new signup) values of which you earn $25 for each active new registered user. One piece of advice is not to discount the niches that do not seem to pay very well, I will get more into this in a future post.

Play around with it for a little while then come back and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Enjoy!

  1. Hi Melissa,

I just wanted to thank you for all the useful information on phpBay PRO. I’m totally new to the plugin as of today. I cannot activate my plugin and phpBay’s website won’t let me post on their forum. My host told me that it’s a scripts issue but they cannot help! I don’t really know who to ask. Maybe you’d know the answer. If this is a hassle I totally understand.

I can see the phpBay PRO plugin in my wordpress back office plugins page. But, when I go to activate it I get the following:

“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home1/xxxxx/public_html/xxxx/wp-content/plugins/phpBay/phpbay.php on line 76″

Would you know how to fix this?

Thanks so much and kind regards,
    David

  2. Hi David,

    You are quite welcome.

Were you able to get this fixed? If not, please email me through the form on my Contact Me page and I would be glad to help you.

There is also a Contact Us page on the main phpBay site. This will allow you to email Wade directly and he would be more than happy to help you as well. He will also be able to help you get access to the forum.

Please let me know if you are still having trouble.

Thanks so much and I wish you all the best.

    Melissa
