Yes, you just get the domain name when you buy domains like these. The only way you get the whole website is if you buy it directly from the previous owner. Yes, you can really make quite a bit of money scouring the databases for names. I found a diamond about a year ago. The domain shopfrankoma.com had not been renewed and had just come up for sale. I bought it intending to build out an affiliate site for Frankoma pottery. I hadn't had it two weeks and received a very substantial offer from Frankoma themselves for the domain. It had originally been theirs, but they dropped the ball on renewing it. Needless to say, I sold it back to them. :-)

Dang, from the sounds of it domain name is really important. Could you really make that much money just by buying one of these domains? I've never bought a domain name that was in use. Do you get JUST the domain, or the files and everything on the server and what not too? I'd like to get into it eventually.

This is great advice for someone looking to start an online business. Getting links is an important step in getting page rank.

I love browsing the Godaddy Auctions too, but these came from a source that only shows dropped names, meaning they are available to buy immediately. Most were dropped within the last 24 hours or last 7 days. I'll keep doing this as I get time or when I go to search for something myself. I just hate to see great names fall through the cracks, but I cannot buy and develop them all. :)

Fantastic, thanks Melissa. I love using Godaddy Auctions, I've found some great high traffic and high PR domain names there recently. I believe Dan from the BANS forum is currently working on a tool for there so that should be quite interesting.

I'll be checking out your list reguarly to see if there are any I can snap up :)
